Rosie the Riveter originated in a song from 1942. Images of women workers were heavily used in the media and as government posters to encourage women to volunteer for wartime service in factories. This image comes from one of those US government poster. Rosie even had her own film in 1944 called Rosie The Riveter, also released as ‘In Rosie’s Room’.
